peripheral

peripheral (2023) is a composition for solo player (one or more instruments) and was written as part of Parliament of Angels 2023, a collaborative project with BL!NDMAN [drums] in partnership with Canterbury Christ Church University. The piece was written especially for percussionist and instrument maker Gideon Van Canneyt.

peripheral is a quiet and open piece structured around a set of circles, each containing a sonic instruction: sustain a low sound, sustain simultaneous sounds, silence, transformation of a sound, or alternating sound and silence.

The player chooses a circle to begin, then moves freely through the score: selecting a path, deciding whether to change, ignore, or layer instructions. The form is indeterminate, guided by choice and listening rather than fixed progression.
