SOUNDS FOR AN EMPTY HOUSE

In 2021, twenty-four artists broadcast twenty-four hours of sounds from one empty house - Plas Bodfa, Wales. Artists from around the world were then invited to remix those sounds into new compositions.

Fourty-four artists have contributed to this album: creatives from Wales, Channel Islands, UK, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Turkey and the United States.

Each track is a unique and innovative remix, using only recordings from the 24-hour live-stream as source material. The tracks are as varied as the artists, but the sounds created by the house itself serve as unifying elements, guiding listeners through the soundscapes - gusty winds through exposed drainpipes, a crackly panel breathing with the airflow, water dripping, a seagull on the slate roofing tiles.

Sounds for an Empty House is a project of Soundlands and Plas Bodfa Projects in collaboration with Amgueddfa Llwch.

Robit:

Robit (2021) is short dark ambient composition uses three extracts from different recordings and artists for Sounds for an Empty House. One layer is a deep pulsating drone, two other layers are created by time stretching minute extracts to the max., and a final higher pitched layer arrives in two waves has the very opposite treatment and results in a sound reminiscent of typing and rummaging through trash. As well as time stretching, I used processes such as looping, cross-fading, equalization, flanging and reverb.
