Take a soundwalk with Sophie Stone along a tailored coastal walk and tune into the sounds of Folkestone. Through listening, this walk will enable you to get to know the incredible breadth of sounds in Folkestone including those in our favourite Folkestone Artworks locations. The soundwalk includes time to tune in to and talk about the beautiful and diverse sounds of Folkestone, as well as create a sound map. This soundwalk takes inspiration from Pauline Oliveros’s Sonic Meditations (1974). Sonic meditations involve listening to present sounds, imagining sounds and remembering sounds. You will have the chance to do this yourself on the soundwalk and share any thoughts you wish to with the group. Sophie Stone is a composer and sound artist from Folkestone. Her music explores listening, silence, environmental sounds and drones, improvisation, and collaboration. Booking is essential to take part on the soundwalk. The walk will start at the Quarterhouse but will end in a different location in Folkestone. Please be prepared to walk approximately 2km with suitable footwear and clothing. Suitable for adults and children (recommended age 7+). Children must be accompanied by an adult.
